Markets, Carnivals and Movies
Do the words Notting Hill conjure up images pretty pastel coloured terraces, the Portobello Market, or even “that” Hugh Grant film? Just a few decades ago the area was unrecognisable with overcrowded houses, derelict buildings, and riots... but how quickly things change! Today, with its exclusive housing and ultra-fashionable bars, Notting Hill is the residential area of choice for actors, artists, millionaires and the fashionable set.
Wander the “long and winding roads” that make up the route of the Notting Hill Carnival. Started in the 1960’s, the annual parade is now a world-famous attraction, drawing over a million participants each August. Why not combine this treasure hunt with a bit of antique shopping, celebrity-spotting and bar-hopping!
